Comcast Up and Down

UPDATE 2021.04.07:  Comcast has been stable for the better part of 24 hours so I'll declare things up and running again. Now the trouble is that I have a new public i.p. address, so I have to update that address in the other end of my point-to-point VPN links, which is not going well.

***

Comcrap has been up and down all morning (mostly down) so the Broward area feeds have followed suit.

I'm not declaring that things are back up until at least tomorrow. Comcast's app first said it would be repaired by 3PM, then when I checked an hour later it said by 4PM. Extending the promised repair time is their oldest trick in the book.

Just be patient. You be patient, sir, or you won't get anything.

Host Outage

19:38 - The web host for listen.trackstreamer.com is experiencing a major outage tonight. My feeds will come back online when they do.

No E.T.R. yet.

UPDATE: OK, I think it's REALLY back on. Crappy Friday + weekend for the techs working this problem at the co-lo facility, though.

Non-Hurricane Isaias Update

I took down the antenna for the F.E.C. Railway Oakland Park feed in anticipation of high winds from Hurricane Isaias, but that storm turned out to be a nothingburger for SoFLA. So the antenna is back up and you can once again hear all the exciting railroad action on both Florida East Coast and CSX/SFRTA/Tri-Rail on the same feed.

The right channel carries the road frequency while the left channel carries everything else. You will find it an effective combination.

Windows 10 Updates Killed KYW Feed

The Key West feed got munged by Micro$oft Windows 10 updates doing whatever the hell they wanted despite the setting to allow ME to choose when to apply them.

If I could run this stuff under linux I would, but we're stuck with the vagaries of Windows for the time being. As soon as the updates finish applying service should be restored.

Hell of a way to run an operating system!

Key West Feed UnGlitched

I have replaced the Key West "Southernmost Feed" with a newer computer that is a little more capable and updated the audio processor on it. But there's only so much one can do with narrowband P25 audio.

Hopefully it will stay up for more than a few days this time.

Key West Feed Restored

Thanks to some timely help, Bote's Southernmost Feed is back up!

I guess it's time to replace the feed computer, but at least the immediate pressure to get it back online has been relieved. I will post updates here as needed.

Thanks to all who helped this time.

Comcast Repaired--I Think

A Comcast technician has just replaced the drop from the pole to my house and even went the extra mile to replace the connectors going to the splitter with my neighbor and the lightning arrestor. There was a gash in the old drop cable that could have been introducing problems, so we shall see.

Only time will tell whether the intermittent outages that lasted 2-5 minutes at a time are finally a thing of the past on the Broward feeds. This includes the Mixer Board, Wild Feed, and F.E.C. Fort Lauderdale feeds.

Moved to Listen.TrackStreamer.com

All feeds have been migrated to listen.trackstreamer.com for those listening on WinAmp or other media player. The port number and mount points remain the same, only the domain name changed.

I updated the HTML5 players on my personal web page describing the streams in detail, so they work once again.

I have no idea if or when TuneIn radio will bother themselves to update my streams on their platform with the new information that I sent them. If past experience is any guide, don't hold your breath.

Bote's Southernmost Feed back online

Bote's Key West scanner feed is back on the air! As the spray-painted sign on plywood said in Key Largo, "You can't drown a conch"

It turns out the feed computer was turned back on after the hurricane, but it did not recognize its own LAN port. I got it working and it's once again streaming. The antenna is OK so we are in business.

Enjoy!

Bote's Mixer Board Now Live

Due to popular demand, Bote's Mixer Board has been returned to service.

Right now it has Fort Lauderdale fire and also police District 1. This keeps things manageable.

Even though it's no longer fed by my mixer board, it sometimes has other stuff on.

The direct listen link to feed into WinAmp or other player is

http://colostreaming.com:8000/botemixer

You can also find it on TuneIn Radio by name, but they shove ads in it.

FEC and Wild Feed Up

I have restored the Florida East Coast Railway and Wild Feeds for now.

The F.E.C. feed is the same as it ever was, still a rinky dink magnetic mount antenna sitting on the roof, doesn't hear all that well.

Bote's Wild Feed monitors Broward fire Dispatch 1, the tac channels, and some of the beach patrol channels until they become unbearable. This feed could change at a moment's notice. It is a wild feed after all.

Key West Feed Restored For Now

The Key West feed had a UPS problem so everything shut down. Everything is back online now.

Monroe County P25 Reprogramming

Monroe County, Florida has cut over to their new Project 25 trunked system. As a result, I had to reprogram my scanner on the Key West feed which explains the recent loss of public safety traffic.

Because all the talkgroup numbers changed we (I) must once again listen and associate which talkgroups are used for what purpose. If you are listening and write down the talkgroup number on your WinAmp display and what agency is using that, I would appreciate it.

You can track the talkgroups and their uses that I have discovered on this online Google spreadsheet.

Thanks.

NQX is BACK!

The Boca Chica-Key West Naval Air Station trunked system is back in the scan list of Bote's Southernmost Feed.

I don't know what programming error caused the scanner to stop tracking it and I haven't figured out what change caused it to work again, but I'm not arguing with success at this point. It works.

If it breaks again, I'll figure it out then.

As before, it normally will scan the NQX fire talkgroups and a few unknown ones that I am trying to identify. If there is a military exercise I might open it up in an attempt to identify mystery talkgroups. Since the air base is 10 miles out of Key West while Truman Annex and b.o.q. facilities are in town, it is good to monitor since sometimes Key West fire and rescue run onto their property. I have seen Navy fire apparatus screaming through Old Town running from one facility to another across the island, which is what prompted me to add this system to the feed in the first place.

Enjoy.

Key West feed is BACK

Thanks to a friend down in Key West, Bote's Southernmost Feed has been restored to service. The feed computer locked up in some weird state with gibberish on the screen so I lost all control of it remotely. He cycled the power on it and now all is well.

Key West feed power failure

UPDATE: Thanks to my good friend Lu, the Key West scanner feed is back online and running just in time for Hurricane Isaac to knock out power to the Keys and put it offline again. :-)

The Rinky Dinky Power Company that supplies Key West lost electricity in the wee hours yesterday morning just long enough for the battery in my U.P.S. to drain to useless. I'll see what I can do about getting somebody to flick the switch on the feed computer to get it running again.

Mixer Board craziness repaired

My client computer that sends the Mixer Board and Wild Feed streams up to the server went crazy, probably due to the recent power glitches we've had from the thunderstorms. The u.p.s. can do only so much.

After restarting the server process thinking it was bonkers and not seeing any improvement, I rebooted the little Dell GX shoebox feed computer and all is well now. I guess I should have started with that fix, but live and learn.

You may now resume listening to all the gripping fire action from beautiful downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Above.net Routing trouble

traceroute shows that packets are not getting from AT&T to the colostreaming.com server. They are dying somewhere in Dallas on the network of above.net

Since my feeds originate from AT&T dsl links they are down for the count. No e.t.r. so keep trying to see what's up when it's up. I'll post here when I know more.

UPDATE: Fixed! AT&T dsl customers can now reach colostreaming.com so we are back in bidniss.

USCG digital channels added to Key West scanner feed

I finally got off my duff and added a block of about 45 digital channels used by the United States Coast Guard. I was reminded to do this by hearing activity on them over my mobile scanner yesterday during an emergency visit to Key West.

I don't know how often they're used, but it should provide an additional aspect on radio activity in Key West.

I just had to reboot the feed computer because RadioFeed had crashed, most likely because I was handling the computer yesterday doing some maintenance. If you just leave things alone they keep running along just fine.

So now I'm going to enjoy the morning with a Cuban American from Cuban Coffee Queen and sit back to listen to my feed.

Enjoy!

Server move

UPDATE: 12:03 - it must have returned to service while I was on the road because everything is online now. It turns out that one of the hard drives had failed and the other in the RAID array was not rebuilding properly, so they moved us to their ESXi platform which is newer and better anyway.

The SuperBoat races have resumed and I have opened up group 3 in the Marine bank since that contains channel 78 which is the race coordination channel. Enjoy.

14:50 - a boat wrecked and capsized at speed. 2 adult males were transported to Lower Keys Medical Center, one with c.p.r. in progress, the other is alert and talking.

***

Our collocation host have taken it upon themselves to move our server without prior notice. As a result, all my scanner streams will be down until that is complete. No estimated time to repair, just keep trying back every few hours I guess.
