Key West Boat Races

Key West once again hosts the Race World Offshore races (which are not very far offshore, to be sure).

Races are held on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday with a lot of filler events in between.

Bote's Southernmost Feed will focus on the race channels on race days.

New Marine Feed, Broward CAD Down

It looks like Broward fire is no longer transmitting their USDD Computer-Aided Dispatch calls over a talkgroup on the old Project 16 trunked system, so I abandoned that and lit up a new VHF marine feed on Broadcastify.

I'm looking for a host in a tall condo near the beach to host the thing for better coverage. For now it's about 3 miles from the ocean and can hear vessels calling Oakland Park and Sunrise bridge tenders, but not the bridges themselves since they transmit at very low power.

Enjoy!

Super Boat Races 2012

Super Boat International brings its 2012 race schedule to Key West this week.

Last year 3 participants died in boat wrecks, so it's worth listening both to the marine channels and the fire+rescue traffic to catch all the action.

I've opened up all the marine channels on Bote's Southernmost Feed and increased the delay time to 4 seconds so that we're more likely to hear replies on the marine channels.

Key West swim race

Marine channel 12 is hopping today with the FKCC Swim Around Key West.

Here's the whole scoop right from the horse's mouth:

Schooner Wharf Wrecker's Cup race

Schooner Wharf bar sponsors a regatta in several parts each year named the "Wrecker's Cup". One instance is being held today starting at 13:00 with operations on marine channel 68.

Key West feed new antenna

OH YEAH! Bote's Southernmost Feed from Key West, Florida now hears MUCH better.

It is running a 1/4 wavelength high band antenna up on the roof, so it hears the Key West and Stock Island sites of the Monroe County trunked system solid now.

It also hears the UHF fire repeaters for Monroe County which still have some interesting traffic.

I have also enabled the marine bank since Key West is an island, after all. If the Coast Guard encrypted transmissions become too obtrusive I shall lock them out. For now, everything is wide open on the marine bank.

This feed should be hopping now!

Enjoy!

No marine channels on Boca Box for now

The Boca Box feed computer is acting flaky all of a sudden, so I have locked out the marine bank for now since I will have no access to the radio room for a couple weeks. The marine channels seem to be the most problematic, between drunken weekend warriors carrying on and on or the Coast Guard droning on with a repetitious announcement over their piss-poor sounding radio system.

I don't want the thing to go belly-up with no physical access and no remote access either and be forced to listen to the nonsense so I have made this temporary change. The rest of the public safety and railroad line-up remains unchanged.

Boca Box lineup

I'm liking the marine reception on the Boca Box feed, so I will leave that group active for a while to see how it is during the week. There was some humorous stuff during the past week that piqued my interest.

I have locked out the police traffic as it is not the purpose of this feed and is far too active for my wishes. The cops made good test traffic to see how the feed was working early on, but now we will only hear from the police if there is a large incident involving them.

So the lineup is now marine simplex channels in the Boca Raton area, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and Deerfield Beach fire departments, and FEC and CSX railroads in the Boca area.

Because I have remote control capability I sometimes focus on one of these, particularly FEC in the late afternoon as the action heats up and passes right by the Boca receiver.

Enjoy!
